Maryellen David Associate

Maryellen David is an associate at Lewis Johs Avallone Aviles, LLP, focusing on insurance coverage matters involving both first-party and third-party claims. She provides comprehensive coverage opinions and analysis across a broad range of issues arising under personal, commercial, and professional liability policies.

With experience on both sides of litigation, Maryellen offers a well-rounded perspective, having spent equal parts of her career representing plaintiffs and defendants. This diverse background allows her to navigate complex legal matters with insight and advocate strategically for her clients.

Prior to joining the firm, Maryellen served as managing attorney at a respected personal injury firm, where she oversaw all litigation involving third-party motor vehicle and premises liability claims, as well as first-party actions against insurance carriers. She was solely responsible for Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist claims, arbitrations, No-Fault disputes, and Declaratory Judgment actions. Her practice also included matters in Surrogate’s Court and Guardianship proceedings related to fatal or incapacitating accidents.

Maryellen began her legal career as a claims representative for one of the nation’s largest insurance companies while earning her law degree. She subsequently worked at several defense firms, where she successfully litigated both first-party and third-party claims at arbitration, trial, and appellate levels.

She earned her Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law in 1997, where she was a member of the Criminal Law Institute and the Journal of Legal Commentary, served as a Student Association class representative, and was named to the Dean’s List. Maryellen holds a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University, graduating with a double major in history and political science and a minor in mathematics.

Maryellen is admitted to practice law in New York, Connecticut, Florida, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
