Joshua S. Sprague Senior Counsel

Joshua S. Sprague represents clients in all facets of complex civil litigation in federal courts, New York State courts, including the Commercial Division, and in arbitration and mediation.  He has extensive experience in both affirmative and defensive litigation, as well as regulatory matters.  His diverse practice includes representing individuals, companies, municipalities and non-for-profit corporations in a wide array of business and contractual disputes, including in actions involving breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duties, breach of restrictive covenants, breach of employment agreements, the faithless servant doctrine, allegations of fraud, business divorces, construction-related matters, title defense and other real estate matters.

Joshua also has successfully represented public school districts and universities, and employees of those institutions, with respect to claims of discrimination asserted pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1983, the New York State Human Rights Law and the New York City Human Rights Law, as well as in cases brought against public institutions pursuant to the New York State Child Victims Act.  His practice also includes representing private schools as general counsel, providing guidance on a wide range of subjects, including general corporate governance matters, preparation of contracts and day-to-day employment issues.

Earlier in his career, Joshua served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the New York State Attorney General, where he conducted investigations and commenced civil litigation as part of the Social Justice Division.  Before his time in government, Joshua worked for two prominent global law firms in New York City where he focused on complex commercial litigation, defending companies and financial institutions in a wide range of cases, including contract disputes, enforcement of letters of credit, securities transactions and shareholder lawsuits.

Joshua received his law degree from Fordham University School of Law and his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from The College of New Jersey.  While in law school, Joshua was a finalist in the Cardozo/BMI National Entertainment and Communications Moot Court Competition and a competition editor on the Fordham Moot Court Board.
