Jeff Hummel’s practice focuses primarily on the defense of physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, podiatrists, and dentists in medical malpractice actions. Given his experience and interest in general negligence litigation, Jeff also handles a number of auto and premises liability matters. He has extensive experience handling matters from intake to trial. Jeff provides effective and efficient representation through aggressive pursuit of discovery, careful analysis of pertinent records, and motion practice if appropriate. He has also successfully drafted and argued several appeals before New York’s Appellate Division, Second Department.
Prior to coming to Lewis Johs, Jeff was a senior associate with a Manhattan law firm specializing in the defense of medical malpractice actions. He has also worked as an associate at well-respected firms specializing in general liability matters. In law school, Jeff worked as an intern for U.S. Magistrate Judge Viktor V. Pohorelsky in the Eastern District of New York, and as an intern in the Appeals Bureau at the Suffolk County District Attorneys’ Office.
Jeff is admitted to practice in New York. He is also admitted in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, Northern and Western Districts of New York. He received his Juris Doctor degree with Dean’s List honors at Fordham University School of Law in 1996, where he was a member of its International Law Journal. In 1993, Jeff earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Williams College in Political Science and Environmental Studies.
Jeff lives with his wife and son in Centerport, New York.
