Community involvement is an important part of the culture at Lewis Johs Avallone Aviles, LLP.  We believe in giving back to the community we serve, and our attorneys and staff actively support numerous charities and community-based organizations.

These are some of the organizations we support.

Branches Long Island

Lewis Johs hosted a Thanksgiving Food Drive for November’s Denim Day initiative. Our team collected and filled a truckload of food for Branches Long Island, a local nonprofit organization, to help provide holiday meals to families in need. This special charity is run by volunteers and is an outreach center that works side by side with many social workers and homeless shelters offering needed services. We are grateful for everyone's contributions and support to help make a difference in our community this Thanksgiving.

Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI)

For the October, 2022 Lewis Johs Denim Day, our team helped raise funds for a client and friend of the firm, Kevin Long. Kevin is very active in the organization known as the Developmental Disabilities Institute (“DDI”). Kevin is running the Philadelphia Marathon on November 20th for "Timmy's Team,” which was named in honor of Kevin’s son, Timmy Long.

The Maurer Foundation

October marks National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Team Denim Day wore pink to raise funds and awareness for the Maurer Foundation, a local non-profit organization. Their mission is to save lives through breast health education, focusing on breast cancer prevention, early detection, risk reduction and healthy lifestyle choices.

Island Harvest

The Lewis Johs family held a Thanksgiving food drive for families in need on Long Island. We collected over 500lbs of food and $1100 in donations for Island Harvest.

The Crissy Fox Foundation

Team Denim Day supported The Crissy Fox Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to spreading breast cancer awareness and helping those affected by the illness. Lewis Johs donated on behalf of Jacki Yilmaz, a valued member of the LJAA team for many years.

Save The Animals Rescue (STAR) Foundation

Team Denim Day supported STAR. Our very own Anthony Lopes is an active weekend volunteer. This organization rehabilitates wildlife by taking in orphan, displaced, & injured wild animals to help these creatures get back into the wild or find permanent placements.

Pronto of Long Island

Team Denim Day supported this non-for-profit community outreach center. They are committed to helping over 400 families this Holiday season. We are delighted to offer our toy donations and give some holiday cheer for families less fortunate than us this time of year.

Island Harvest

For this Thanksgiving and November’s Denim Day, Lewis Johs held a food drive for Island Harvest to help feed families in need this holiday season. From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving

Developmental Disabilities Institute

Blanca's House

Team Denim Day Supported volunteers that brings free medical services and healthcare education to communities in Latin America. Stretching across international borders to provide essential medical care in local communities, each Blanca’s House mission has improved the quality of lives of people whose access to healthcare is minimal or non-existent

St. Baldrick's Foundation

Team Denim Day got their green on to help raise funds and awareness for St. Baldrick's Foundation supporting childhood cancer research.

American Heart Association

Last Friday was National Wear Red Day and our team at LJAA held a special denim day to support the American Heart Association's movement to raise awareness for women's heart health.

Michael Gilmor Scholarship Fund

LJAA honored 23 year old Michael Gilmor, who suddenly passed away from an undetected aneurysm. John Glenn High School has set up a scholarship in his name.

Christmas Magic, Inc.

The team collected toys as well as raised funds and awareness for Christmas Magic, an organization that provides toys to Long Island’s homeless and underprivileged children.

Long Island Cares

The LJAA team “adopted” 50 families, providing full Thanksgiving meals to families in need on Long Island.

Spirit of Children

LJAA got into the Halloween spirit and donated towards this foundation that brings the spirit of Halloween to over 140 children's hospitals across the US and provides playrooms and family space as well as fund art, music, pet and aquatic therapies.

NYU Langone Perlmutter Cancer Center

LJAA held a special denim day on behalf of our attorney Teri Scotto-Lavino who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer and valiantly fighting this terrible disease.

Gracious Hands

Lewis Johs raised funds for Gracious Hands an orphanage in Haiti that works to improve and transform the life quality of children who were homeless.

Stage the Change

Stage the Change works with high school students & teachers to teach students how to speak up and become a part of the process and to have their voices heard, through theater, dance, film or music.

United Veterans Beacon House

In honor of Memorial day, Denim Day benefited United Veteran Beacon House a local veterans facility that helps provide homes to homeless veterans.

American Kidney Fund

LJAA held a very special Denim Day in support of our Marketing Assistant who donated her kidney to her brother.

McCarton Foundation

“Light it up Blue Day!” This year our Education Practice Group has chosen to support the McCarton Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to bring life-changing therapeutic programs to children with autism in Bronx, NY.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Denim Day to support some of LJAA's friends and family in helping raise funds and awareness for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This foundation is the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding research, finding cures and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patient.

Cycle for Survival

Team LJAA gathered together to raise funds and show support for attorney Megan Murphy's fundraising cycling team participating in Cycle for Survival. This foundation benefits rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

National Down Syndrome Society

Denim day dedicated to client and friend, Kevin Long's efforts in the 2018 Run for 3.21 to support the National Down Syndrome Society.

Go Red for Women

Supporting #GoRed by wearing our denim and red to raise awareness for women's heart health. We are proud of our staff’s efforts each year to embrace Wear Red Day by helping raise funds and awareness for this very important cause!

Half Hollow Hills- Blessings in a Backpack

LJAA supported Blessing in a Backpack, who provide food on the weekends for elementary school children.

John Theissen Children's Foundation

The team collected toys as well as raised funds and awareness for the John Theissen Children's Foundation. The foundation not only provides toys to sick and needy children, they also help families with medical expenses and take part in fulfilling sick children's wishes.

Long Island Cares

The staff went above and beyond by collecting hundreds of pounds of food and donating funds to help needy families for the holidays on Long Island.

Spirit of Children Foundation

We are proud to support a foundation that brings the spirit of Halloween to over 140 Children's Hospitals across the US and helps create the Child Life Departments, which provide playrooms and family space as well as fund art, music, pet and aquatic therapies.

The Maurer Foundation

The team supported Breast Cancer Awareness month and The Maurer Foundation. This non-profit foundation provide life-saving presentations to educate students, women and men about breast cancer prevention, early detection, risk factors, myths, and proper breast self-exam procedures.

Volunteers of America - Greater NY

We are pleased to support Operation Backpack to help thousands of homeless children and foster youth in NY go back to school with the supplies they need to succeed.

Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI)
