Maggie F. Cowley
Associate


Maggie Cowley is an Associate in the Special Education Practice Group representing children with disabilities and their families throughout the administrative hearing process, appeals, and related proceedings. Since joining Lewis Johs Avallone Aviles, Maggie has successfully secured tuition, related services, and intensive tutoring for children who have been denied a Free Appropriate Public Education.

Maggie received her juris doctorate from Temple University, Beasley School of Law, in 2010 where she focused on civil rights and disabilities law. During law school, Maggie interned at the Disabilities Rights Network of Pennsylvania where she was involved in cases arising under the American with Disabilities Act, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. In 2007, Maggie received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University where she majored in International Political Economy with a minor in Sociology. While there, Maggie was a student leader in Global Outreach, a cultural immersion and service program with the goals of creating solidarity, learning about issues of poverty and injustice, and connecting the local with the global for Fordham's undergraduate students.

Prior to joining Lewis Johs, Maggie was an Advocacy Associate at AHRC New York City where she focused on special education advocacy. While at AHRC she was awarded the Barrack Public Interest Fellowship in recognition of her commitment to providing pro bono legal services to the families of New York City. She represented families in the administrative hearing process, participated in IEP meetings at the school and CSE level, and was an active member of the Arise Coalition and Parents for Inclusive Education.

Maggie is a member of the New York State Bar.
